Sariah speaks with Sam'ael after meeting The Chosen Five

“My Son, I believe that their appearance has something to do with Bael Turath. Eons ago, Bael Turath was the greatest empire that man had ever seen. They ruled for hundreds of years, but, just like all great empires, they started to crumble from within. Internal strife and power struggles sapped some of the empire’s strength. Then, like an unholy blight, demons from the abyss swarmed over the empire nearly destroying everything in their wake. Bael Turath fought for years against the demonic and undead scourge but soon, the Emperor knew that his reign would come to an end unless he took drastic measures. He forged an unholy alliance with Asmodeus and, with the strength and organization the devils brought, finally sealed the rift the demons used to enter into this world. I believe that rift … was the Shadow Rift.” She pauses for a moment before she continues, “Since that time, each successive empire has made sure to guard the Shadow Rift to prevent anyone from reopening the it. That is … until the collapse of the Nerath Empire nearly a century ago.” A worried look crosses her face. She takes a deep breath before saying, “I fear that The Chosen Five are the ones that released the demon swarm upon Bael Turath so long ago … If I am right and that rift reopens, then nothing can stop them this time. The Great Empires of Man have passed into oblivion, the noble Dragonborn are scattered and disorganized, the Elves and Eladrin grow ever more distant, and the dwarves are only interested in their own affairs. In the coming years, someone will have to unite the races against this dark and growing threat.”
She looks at you as a proud mother and says, “I believe that leader is you.”

Hearing this grim news, Sam’ael raises his fiery red eyes to meet his mother’s own almond shaped orbs. “I understand mother. Although the task will be difficult and no doubt dangerous, I can’t help but feel that this opportunity was meant for me. I’ve studied strategy for years and with your and father’s miltiary training, I’m convinced I can complete this task. It’s always pained me to think that father and I would be seperated from you after we die. The loss of a soul and eternal servitude to Asmodeus has seemed too heavy a burden for a race of people to bear. Perhaps this momentous task is a chance to curry favor with powers greater than ours and earn a place for the Tieflings in the afterlife. In any event, the gate is now my burden and my life’s purpose. I vow to you that I will defend this gate until I am unable. We will send word to all corners of the world and seek reinforcement to prevent any from completing the ritual we have halted. Meanwhile, my companions and I will set out and attempt to discover a more permanent way to close this gate once and for all.” And then with a furious blast of smoke from his nostrils…”And woe to Orcus or any of his followers who stand in our way!”
