Sam'ael and the Hellpath Tome

Another day had passed traversing the treacherous caverns. Another day in the field, and now another night by the light of the campfire. As his party slumbered, Sam’ael felt a moment’s guilt… he was after all the field commander of this company. If he were to catch one of his crew reading while they were on watch… well they’d be hell to pay. Even their newest member, a massive minotaur would not escape his wrath. Glancing over, he ensured that his comrades continued their easy slumber. With another scan of the tunnels he returned to his tattered tome; confident that his low light vision would catch any would be adversaries. Despite his better judgement, he could not help but return hungrily to the text before him. It seemed that every page held some long held secret within. Take this newest page… it explained a technique by which he could temporarily drop his guard and entice a foe to strike, leaving him completly open to his companions’ blows. And here, the book described several exploits used by great tiefling warriors in their epic battle against the dragonborn, by combining instruction with carefully planning an ally’s blow could be significnatly improved. However, despite the amazing tactical implications, Sam’ael could feel himself change as he plumbed the work’s depths. He had always been an easy leader of men, it was a natural gift that he was careful not to exploit… but as he read he found himself finding new ways to use his god-given… or rather Asmodeus given talents. He could lead from the front, by combining his natural charisma, strenght of arm and intellect he could no doubt lead his men to victory. Be that as it may, it felt dangerous… several exploits seemed risky… great pay-off in terms of damage potential, but risky to himself and his friends. But as the stakes rose higher and higher he found himself eager to pay their cost. It seemed that it was his destiny to walk the fine line between using the tactics of the devils and becoming one himself… but there seemed to be little else he could do… with a resigned sign he flipped to the next page. Smiling to himself, the devilish warrior felt a bit more of his soul darken…
