Sir Keegan's Tomb

You travel deeper and deeper into Shadowfell Keep. Soon you come to an old crypt door. Once opened, you see that a raised dais in this old crypt holds a single coffin. Carved on the lid of the coffin is a warrior in plate armor with a sword laid across his chest, the point toward his feet.

Suddenly, the heavy coffin lid explodes in a flurry of dust. A humanoid skeleton girded in plate armor rises from the cloud. It holds aloft a longsword. “The rift must never be re-opened!” it croaks. “State your business, or prepare to die!”

You quickly determine that this is the ghost of Sir Keegan. You convince him of your good intentions and promise him that you’ll do everything you can to protect the Shadow Rift from being re-opened. In return for your promise, he gives you his trusty longsword, Aecris.

Yattara and the Torture Chamber

You travel the depths of Shadowfell Keep fighting minions and monsters the entire way. You turn down a corridor which then widens into a long, narrow chamber. Doors are set in the northern and western walls, and iron double doors stand to the east. Faint bloodstains streak the floor between the western door and the northern door. You hear screams come from the room ahead. Someone needs your help.

As you enter, you see a torture chamber. A hobgoblin appears to be in the middle of torturing an eladrin female. Heroes that you are, you fight to rescue her. After the battle, you introduce yourself to the young captive. Her name is Yattara and she offers to travel with you.

Into the Depths of Shadowfell Keep

After stopping in Winterhaven to resupply, you send Douven home to report your progress to your family. You then set out toward Shadowfell Keep. Ahead, the narrow track widens into a clearing. Great piles of shattered stone blocks and scorched timbers dominate the clearing, sprawling out from its center to the edge of the woods. No plants grow among the ruins or within the clearing. The ground is bare dirt, and although the forest has begun to reclaim the path leading here, it has not intruded into the ruins of Shadowfell Keep.

Yet clearly someone has tampered with the ruins. In the center of the debris, stone blocks and timbers have been gathered into a pile. Someone has cleared a path through the rubble and pulled aside the wreckage to reveal a stone staircase. The staircase desends into darkness.

The Dragon Burial Site

A note found in Irontooth’s treasure horde has led you to a Dragon Burial Site. You are almost certain that it’s the same site that Douven and Sariah were looking for. After a day or so on the road you arrive and find a halfling and a group of humans working at the site.

Agrid, the halfling, calls out to you waving you closer. “Come … see what we’ve found.”, he says. Seems friendly enough. Surely he’s an associate of Douven. Lulled into a false sense of security, you proceed unaware of the ambush ahead.

Your improving skills on the battlefield are now beginning to pay off. You survive the ambush and find Douven bound and gagged. He tells the story of how he and Sariah were taken prisoner by the Death Cult. And how Sariah was wisked away a few days prior to your arrival toward Shadowfell Keep.

Forestcliff Lair

You set out on the road again searching for Sariah and Douven. Many family members back home in Fallcrest are counting on you to bring them home. Following a lead, you search a known kobold lair for a sign.

Irontooth Suddenly, a harsh, bleating horn hearalds the appearance of a burly, battle-scarred goblin. Around him, kobolds scurry as if afraid to get too close. A great tattoo depicting a skeletal ram’s head marks this goblin’s face. In hushed tones they begin to chant, “Irontooth! Irontooth!” Then, with a roar, he and the kobolds attack.

The battle wages on. Although, determined, you are no match for such seasoned warriors. Fortunately, Genevieve, a prisoner of Irontooth, soothes your wounds and allows you to gain the upper-hand. Victory is yours!

You talk with Genevieve after the battle only to determine that she, like you, is looking for a lost loved one. Perhaps there is safety in numbers …

The Road to Winterhaven

The wind in your face is cool and comfortable. The road beneath your feet is level. Today is as good a day as any to travel with a caravan from Fallcrest to Winterhaven. An occasional ancient cobblestone peeks through the dirt road, indicating decades of neglect. You notice footprints leading up and down the road, many of which were made by small, clawed feet.

Suddenly, and without warning, you are ambushed by kobold brigands! Kobolds Attack!

These fearce brigands nearly end your adventuring career almost before it starts. With the help of the villagers in the caravan, you turn the tide of battle and survive for another day.

You find yourselves in Winterhaven a few days later.

... And So it Begins

The adventure begins just a few days after Douven Stahl and Sariah travelled northwest in search of a dragon’s graveyard. Douven was simply in search of the mother-lode and a chance to retire, but Sariah was looking for the dragon’s blood that could, quite possibly cure her husband’s injuries. The adventurers set out to find their wayward family members.
